It made sense to add the bank. All the foreshadowing with Magister Imaniel drilling Cithren comes into play now. The financial aspects add a lot of layers to the story and require the addition of new characters. It's like a place to rest for a bit, but I'm not convinced it will last very long.
I can't say that anything really shocked me. I think that Cithrin was so determined to act the way she thought a magister should act, that she detached herself emotionally to achieve her goal. Or at least tried too. Unfortunately, she was not capable of being that calculated, manipulative person, and therefor couldn't handle the consequences of her poor choices. I did enjoy her exchange with Yardem after her night out. It was comical.
Also loved the dragon :)
As far as mixed feelings go, Dawson takes the cake for me. I find that he has many qualities I like, but his antiquated way of thinking has to go. Clara on the other hand, I'm really enjoying. She hasn't had a huge role to play but I'm hoping that will change. Something about her intrigues me.
Citrin is young and stupid...not unintelligent...but stupid..lol I think she'll learn, perhaps the hard way, but she'll learn.
I believe it refers to the actions the dragons took which inevitably lead to their demise also. I did enjoy visualizing the physical dragon that Geder came across as well. It was a nice touch.
I enjoyed the twist...horrendous as it was...now I wonder if anyone survived...Magister Imaniel, Cam or someone unexpected.
Follow the money. Getting an idea of where it's coming from, where it's going and why, only adds to the story ;) it's an element I enjoy.
I find him to be likable but ignorant. He absolutely believes he's doing the right things for the right reasons. At this point I still have hope that he may start to see things differently, especially regarding those who are not nobles.
Reliving the crapper scene...thanks so much for that Carl..lol I was not happy about Geders burned book...that was just plain mean. The fact that he has to hide the perceived, softer side of himself bothered me , but it did get his whole vengeance thing going which almost made it worth it ;)
In my head I'm seeing dog people, rabbit people, insect people ,fish people.....etc. I don't really mind it at this point, but I am looking forward to a more detailed description :) As far as the chapters, if he were writing it for our group read...I hope he'd add chapter numbers ;)
I am also enjoying the undefined goodness or badness at this point. There's nothing guiding me to like or not like anyone at this point, (aside from general personality preference) and it somehow intrigues me even more. It seems so far to be a book I could devour. One that , when I'm not reading it, I would be thinking about different scenarios and hypothesizing about how things might happen and play out.
How do you feel about the structure with alternating chapters focusing on different characters?

I love this style. It makes the reading go very quickly and BEGS me to read more. It steps away from each situation long enough for me to be intrigued by another, yet not so long that that I find myself saying "oh yeah, that's what they were doing"...lol Very much enjoying it :)
The apostate, for me is one I will really enjoy getting entire back story on. The compassionate man with the dark twisted history is my kinda guy. Understanding his past and why he made the choices he did should be very interesting. And the spider blood :oGeder, I believe (or very much hope) will be a character that changes a great deal for the better, but right now the lack of backbone grinds my gears a bit.
I'm also hoping to learn more about Jorey. I've liked the bit I've seen of him so far.
