108348 If you're just starting out, the classic one is Luck Jim, so maybe start there. It's pretty funny. But from there, I loved One Fat Englishman, the Green Man, and the Old Devils. Is tgere one called Jake's Thing? I think it was a good one too.

108348 Almost finished with The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Fall of New York
It's a bear, but I'd recommend highly to NYC residents and non-residents alike. But you'll probably only be able to slog through it if you're either a resident, or have a particular interest in the city. Robert Caro seems like a very interesting guy...Rob Moses definitely was. I'm looking for something nice and light...fiction. And short-ish. Also, for some reason, I want to read something new-ish. Anyone got a hot suggestion?

108348 Just finished Razor's Edge. Took me 150 pages to get into it, but I ended up liking it fine. I can't say that I ever found it funny…I thought I'd heard it was supposed to be funny. Not that it mattered, just surprised. Anyhow, definitely worth the read. Thanks.

108348 Thanks for the recommendations, welcome to the gang. I will get more active on this group in the new year. The only one I've read of those is the Raymond Carver so I'll check them out.
Ok talk to you later

108348 Hello everyone and welcome to the club. I hope people will offer some recommendations here, and we can maybe discuss. Ok see you round.

108348 Have you ever read anything by him? According to my mother in law, he is regarded as a "second-rate writer", but she really likes him, and is recommending to me. I think I'm going to look into it and get back to you.

108348 The Bluest Eye

This is my first attempt at a discussion topic.

This Toni Morrison book really knocked me out. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Verdict: MUST READ

108348 Greetings guys thanks for joining! It took me ten solid minutes to figure out how to post on this, but I think I figured it out. Anyhow, I'm going to invite some more folks, and then I'm going to try and figure out what you do in a book club. So it may take a little while to get the ball rolling, but once the train rolls out of the station, who's gonna stop it. Ok later.
