The book is really all about people in the town of Castle Rock divided and maki..."As much as we love King at his creepiest, many of us have a weakness for the unexpected softer side that sometimes comes out in his stories. But what a surprise to hear you link it to It -- that's great insight!
Laura wrote: "I read The Beautiful Ones by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. It is a light historical fantasy, set in a country like France, and during a time period similar to the Belle Epoque era. With glittering high soc..."Yes, Laura, this sounds like a delightful way to escape (and across the pond to France, nonetheless)! The Beautiful Ones, as you described, does sound beautiful. Thank you for the recommendation.
Denise wrote: "I am almost finished listening to Darling Rose Gold by debut author Stephanie Wrobel. The narrators are fabulous and are really channeling the characters but the story is DARK! A mother is convicte..."This is a title we've been watching closely, so thank you for letting us know about the push-and-pull of its appeal, Denise! The hunger for twisty books (and, as you say, twisted characters) doesn't seem to be slowing down in the least. We'll keep this one in mind.
Donna wrote: "I’m halfway through Mirage by Somaiya Daud. It’s set in a distant galaxy and the culture seems to be based on maybe the Persian Empire after it’s invaded by the Roman/Byzantine Empire (except the i..."Mirage sounds so mesmerizing. Thank you for the recommendation. Hope the second half is as enjoyable for you as the first.

Ruth Ware is a favorite of many on our staff. The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse is one, I personally, had not been aware of. Thank you for the recommendations and happy reading!

That really does have a striking cover! Please do share where your reading takes you.
Janine wrote: "I'm almost finished with Stay Sweet by Siobhan Vivian. It's been the perfect escape read - all about an ice cream shop in a small town. It's summery and sweet, and kind of perfect."That does sound sweet. It appears the eAudio is available on Hoopla (Stay Sweet-eAudio). Perhaps it is a sweet listen too.
Chelsea wrote: "I listened to The Deep on Libby/Overdrive. So interesting the way it was inspired. Plus, it was a short listen."New book inspired by Daveed Diggs’ rap song 'The Deep'
Quite the interesting backstory for this novella.
Donna wrote: "I’m listening to War Girls by Tochi Onyebuchi on Libby."One of our colleagues was excited about War Girls. Hope you are enjoying your listen.
Jan wrote: "I just finished the 2nd in the Kendra Donovan series by Julie McElwain. Not only do these books help me forget where I am but they also help me forget WHEN I am. Fun escapist time travel mystery se..."Wow, that sounds like quite the enveloping book and series. That it helped you forget WHEN you are sounds absolutely perfect RIGHT now too. Thank you for sharing.
P.S. We cannot wait until we reopen either and you can get some more physical books!
Meisbres wrote: "Reading Dance Away With Me by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. This romantic comedy is the perfect pandemic read—light, fluffy, escapist fiction"We love that--"perfect pandemic read". Hope you are able to be transported by more "perfect pandemic reads". Thank you for sharing, we have some fans of Susan Elizabeth Phillips in the house cheering you on!
Denise wrote: "Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin"This modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice is one of our favorites, too. Extra copies in ebook and e-audio have recently been added so readers can discover the love even sooner. Thanks, Denise!
We'll start! We are a library in Mount Prospect, IL, and we love talking to people of all ages and interests about what they are reading. We especially like it when someone recommends a book to us. During social distancing we enjoy trading pictures and video peeks of our substitute coworkers - our pets! Book club looks a little different now...
Have you read/listened to a book from one of MPPL's digital services (Overdrive, Hoopla, RBdigital - https://mppl.org/e-library/)? Share what book you enjoyed.
