It's that time of year again when GeekCLE Book Club members submit their favorite spooky stories for the group to read. Submit your pick by September 30th by emailing or PM, Heather (heather@geekcle.com). We will be meeting the 2nd Sunday of the month of October, location TBD, but there will be some sort of fire-pit/bonfire to set the mood. I will keep everyone posted!
The short story collection our members curated was such a resounding success that we are doing it again! So far we've got 4 new submissions with plenty of time to add some more. "Jack" by China Mieville
"20th Century Ghost" by Joe Hill
"The Sentinel" by Arthur C. Clarke
"The Stars My Destination" by Alfred Bester
Hi everyone!! As promised, we will be reading a collection of short stories curated by the members of GeekCLE Book Club. Keep in mind the shorter the better, so that everyone can bring a story to share. Head over to the website to let us know what you want the group to read. We'll post a finalized list in the next week or so depending on how quickly everyone responds :)http://geekcle.com/2014/05/09/geekcle...
Most of that playlist is pretty terrifying but he gets a thumbs up for putting one of my favorite Devo songs on there.

Just a casual observation but there seems to be more female writers of fantasy than sci-fi...any idea what's up with that??? And again, just a casual beginner's observation, I've in no way attempted to research the veracity of that claim!

If someone came to you and was not familiar with the genre where would you have them start? What are some of your favorite sci-fi/fantasy books?
