Hi Harriet!

The idea came from a love of a movie directed by Michelangelo Antonioni called "The Passenger". It's a typical 70's existential ennui study starring Jack Nicholson, but I love it, it's one of my favorite movies, and I wanted to re-tell parts of it as a traditional thriller.

That was my main inspiration -- my love for "The Passenger". Past that, I'd always loved Patricia Highsmith and her "Ripley" books and wanted to write a character in that vein, but write him as a spy.

So it was really the collusion between Antonioni, Highsmith, and then my never-ending love of Graham Greene and Robert Stone.
