I read this when I was in my teens or early 20s, can't remember exactly. I remember thinking it was such a unique character perspective that I'd never read before. Also found Holden incredibly annoying but still enjoyed the story. Should have been a red flag to me that when I recommended my ex bf read it, cos I thought he'd find it interesting, he found the character very relatable 😅

Yeah I think if it was longer perhaps I would've got that from more detail. She did do a good job of creating an unsettling tone throughout the book.

Honestly it's been a long time since I read Jane Eyre, but I knew this was the back story of the crazy lady in the attic and that was enough for me. But to be honest on the book itself, I can't understand the hype. It wasn't easy to follow, seemed pretty unremarkable, and very light touch.

I hadn't come across this book before but I always love reading things about the power of art etc. Might try and get to this in Nov :)

Right, it's been month since I've joined in with one of the Group Reads. I hadn't picked this up before because it's been so long since I read Jane Eyre. But I've put this book on the reserve at the library and only 2nd in the queue so will start it soon :) Glad to hear you guys have been enjoying reading it.
Almost completed all my challenges. Will try and get to some more classics to knock off my guardian part of challenge.

I read both The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn last year for the first time, in anticipation of read James. I loved them both. I've got James on reserve at my library but I'm about 100 in the queue so not sure I'll get in time for group read in July.

I read this book when it first came out and as always loved Maggie's writing. The first story was a bit close to home as a kiwi woman.
