Yes Dianne, I have heard of people that just give bad reviews because they can. Not because they actually read the book. That is really not fair-maybe there should be a rule that if you give a 1 or 2 star review you need to explain why.
A.J.-Yes you are right, with books from the publisher through Net Galley for example,we try for release dates for the review, so it is time sensitive sometimes. As far as 3 star reviews-the site I review for considered those to be entertaining, well written books. Four was a book you should add to your personal library and five was pretty much, WHOA!Great read. But now without the stars, that doesn't matter anymore.
I review for a website and my reviews are simply MY thoughts and no one else's.Not everyone is going to agree with what I write and some people might even hate what I write. I can't help that because I try to be as honest as possible. I recently wrote a review that the author was not happy with and she wrote the owner of the site. The owner backed me up to the hilt.I even said I was sorry and that I hated to write what I did in the review itself. I had received the book from the publisher so I HAD to review it.It was just horrendous. I will not be re-posting that review on Amazon or GoodReads as would be my usual. I guess my point is that there are lots of reviewers out there that are trying to be honest. But I repeat-it is my opinion only so take what I or any other reviewer writes as only one opinion. And by the way, I write way more good reviews then bad. We no longer give out stars so that the review is more about what we liked or didn't like and not about telling an author they have just written a one star or a two star book. It seems to be working.
I have only been to Toronto as far as another country, went twice because I loved it there. I was born in Michigan, lived a few months in Florida as a child, then lived most if my life in Kentucky until I moved to Maryland over two years ago. I have traveled all over the USA except New England, the Dakotas and a few other states. Bisky,Maryland is on the Atlantic coast. I live near Baltimore and the Chesapeake Bay.
Bisky wrote: "My old cat would just suddenly stare at the staircase and gaze upward as if he was watching someone walk up it. I think he did it to screw with me."All my cats over the years have done this. Freaks me out totally!
I agree Bisky-I like a good series as long as the main storyline is pretty much wrapped up. What I don't like is a on the edge of your seat cliffhanger and you have months before you know what happens. But if it is an author I love and a series I love I can even forgive that.
I am following and being followed by a lot of you amazing people and I thank you- but I really don't consider myself a writer like all of you. I blog for a website that reviews books. My twitter is usually all about books and reviews. Sorry if there was any confusion!
Caged series by Amber Lynn Natusch or the Magerie series by Dannika Dark. Both would be very adaptable to television.
If anyone wants to follow me on Twitter my name is Mollykatie112. I follow back. Or friend me on Good Reads. Most of my twitter is links to book reviews or just talking about books.(occasionally other stuff)
Demons on Bourbon Street book 3 of the Jade Calhoun series..can't remember the author. I loved the first books but the 3rd just got ridiculous, at least I thought so. Made no sense.
I've seen way too many movies and as probably the oldest here,it's hard to pick just a few..some would be, Star Wars, Sound of Music. Georgy Girl,While You Were Sleeping,Sleepless in Seattle,Purple Rain,The Color Purple and yep even the Twilight movies. I am all about being entertained not enlightened when I go to the movie :)
Hi, I am Lorna and I only write reviews for a blog web site(and sometimes Amazon and Good Reads) but I love it. My favorite books are usually paranormal romance, romance, young adult, romantic suspense and some thrillers. I read a lot of indie books too.If you need or want more GR friends, please friend me.
Sorry Bisky I thought you meant to introduce myself on this thread. Still new :) Never have to worry about me promoting anything but I do love to talk about books and of course review them! Oh and should I go to the introduction page and introduce myself there too? Thanks!
Hi My name is Lorna Atkins and I just joined the group tonight. I am not an author but I do blog about books. My Twitter page is mostly all about book stuff. Please feel free to follow me at Mollykatie112. Oh and I am not real sure I should even be in this group as I am not an author but I did get invited. If it's not appropriate for me to be in this group that's okay too. Just let me know. Thanks :)
