A large portion of our country only see this holiday as a commercial one. Which is primarily what it has become. It is a christian holiday, the Christ that works at Wal-mart. As for pre-christian rituals I'm with you on learning any traditions TRUE origin, no matter what though I'll be watching It's a Wonderful Life and Elf every year!
