What a fantastic book to pause on, it's certainly one of my favourites. Lizzy is such an inspiration yet no matter what your current running level and running goals, you instantly feel a connection. I love this quote which captures every start line I have ever stood at."We stand here together and yet each alone. We are each alone with our own thoughts, our own hopes, expectations, fears and doubts. Grappling with the disparity between excitement and trepidation.
We start and I run. I keep running."
This book was brilliant. Another great choice by Char and different to all the others we've read this year. Having tried the odd Fell race at a country show I could appreciate the quirks and traditions that still exist in the sport.
Apologies for the late review but I was locked out of my account for some reason so couldn't post. I think Lowri is such an inspiration but yet at the same time comes across as so down to earth. Great book.
I agree with Stephen that I also wouldn't have discovered this brilliant little book if not for Bookhounds. I loved John's style of writing and like him find longer runs allow me to drift into my thoughts and be mindful of the places I run through.
A bit behind the times but I've just read this. I've always enjoyed Damien's columns in running magazines over the years and as a fan of longer trail runs myself, found this an interesting insight into the world of FKTs and that in racing things don't always go well even for those at the front of the race. Damien writes this up with his usual flair and lots of dad jokes which made it an easy and interesting read.
Great interview and I'm interested in what Noé does next.I loved the book and in particular all of the characters and personalities involved in the Peace and Dignity run and their reasons for getting involved. It was also refreshing to read a book that wasn't just about running but also about Noé"s culture, history and family and how that drives him forward in life. Fantastic choice Char!
This was such an easy book to read and I finished it last night as couldn't put it down until I'd read the last page (I'm very tired this morning hee hee) I loved this from start of finish and think the best adventures are the ones you just go and do rather than planning everything down to the letter. Elise is an amazing young woman and what an adventure she had.
Just picked this up last night and I'm already hooked. puts me in mind of other adventure writers like Anna McNuff. Can't wait to read the rest of the adventures
For anyone that enjoys running poetry look out for Running Mr Jones on twitter. He's got a book out too although it's still on my list to buy.
Love that this is a book you can flick in and out off. I've enjoyed the poetry and short stories I've read so far and love his little motivational hash tags!
Definitely @Char I've just finished reading Spirit Run. What an amazing book so thanks for the recommendation.
I'm someone who has never been to Parkrun as a bit like someone else in the book I don't see the point of driving for 30 to 40 minutes just to run 5k. Therefore I wasn't sure whether the book would be for me but I have enjoyed the different stories of people and their reasons for running, volunteering etc. I do have a Parkrun barcode so never say never!
Hello I'm a newbie. Tough question as so many. Currently reading Chris McDougal's latest book Running with Sherman which combines 2 of my favourite things, running and donkeys! The best fictional running book I read recently was Flanagan 's Run which I devoured in a couple of days. I'm always on the hunt for new books so have noted a couple here I haven't read yet (my phone is full of screenshots of book lists) 😂
