Wow that sounds great!! I've never read a Mulan retelling before! I'm not done with mine yet but I got up to 27748 words and 81 pages, so far. I had to pause for a while to plan a little because I reached the part where my mc, Elsie enters the fantasy world, but once I figure that out I'll try to keep writing. I realized I probably should have stopped earlier to do world-building, but I decided to just keep writing, and now I've finally started brainstorming ideas for it.

Here's what I wrote in the about my book section:
I'm writing a new novel which is a ya magical realism fantasy mystery(also a little bit of a thriller)

It's about this girl named Elsie whose mom dies and she has to move into her grandmother's mansion for a while during the summer. Things start to get strange when her grandmother shouts cryptic words everytime she enters the room, and she finds her cousin Irene “talking” to the butterflies who seem to follow her everywhere. The woods and garden outside the mansion are brewing with secrets, and though she’s terrified, Elsie knows she will need to enter its depths if she ever wants to solve the mystery of her mother’s death.

Each passing day brings more clues, and more terrors, with everything pointing at seemingly innocent, ten-year-old, Irene. But with a closer look, Elsie soon realizes that things may be more sinister than she thought and that those who were closest to her mother may be her betrayers. And then there are the butterflies, who seem to turn up everywhere she looks. As each piece of the puzzle fits together, Elsie can’t help but wonder could her mother have been hiding something from her? And why did she return to the woods the night of her death?

And then there's a really big plot twist but I can't tell you what it is cause you'll have to read it to find out! (hint this is where the fantasy magical realism part comes in!!)

I've gotten 15,200 words so far, and I'm guessing the whole novel will be around 80,000 so I still have a lot left :)

Hi, I'm Shreya and I've been writing for almost forever, but I still haven't finished a novel. I've started around 6 of them but I stopped midway and never finished. I'm about a quarter of the way through a new novel which I've written around 17,000 words for and hopefully, this will be the one I finish!

Also this groups sounds so cool! I'm looking forward to meeting other writers and discussing our books! :)
