Everyone of every age should read this book. However, contrary to the authors repeated statements, this is a history book and I'm not sure how many young adults can be convinced to read it. I listened to it, and loved the authors enthusiasm and passion. So, I've been encouraging people toward the audio. I give it a 5.
I liked this book, but I'm not sure it's a Level 1 book. Not because of anything offensive-there's no language/sex/gory violence-it just seems to be a more involved read. There are long descriptive passages, some references that I think many in this age group wouldn't understand. I can't nail down what I think. The story was different and original, the characters were well rounded, the themes were clear. But I think it would bore most younger readers. Still, I give it a 3/5
I hadn't planned on reading this book But my library had it, it was in, so based on the above review I checked it out. And, I liked it. It tells an important story is such a way that is both heart-wrenching and up-lifting. I think young teens will like the flow and characters. I liked the wrap up at the end, as well. 4 of 5.
This was a good story. I little confusing at times but it always worked itself out. The action will grab young readers and keep them engaged. I give it a 4.
I loved this book! I didn't think I would, based on the synopsis, but it really grabbed me. There were some minor flaws but it had great characters and I think it would really appeal to this, or any, age group. I give it a 5.
I had some trouble with Fable, but it's hard to explain. I felt like there were passages, both descriptive and conversational, where I was expected to know what they were talking about but I had no clue. And as I looked back for clues, I couldn't find any. So, I guess I could sum that up by saying both my teen and adult self were confused. The first half was very slow. It had a promising story but I don't think it delivered. Maybe the second book will start strong and fill in gaps, but i don't care enough about the characters to read the second book. I'm betting this is not a popular opinion; I'll be interested to hear what others say. Best thing about it was the cover, which is gorgeous. 2 of 5
