Just finished!Overall I felt the story was good - but there was so much more potential. This could mostly be attributed to the age the book is geared for.
I enjoyed the characters and dynamics, but felt a lack of depth and character development. I feel like the relationships didn't have the ability to grow much either. The journey happens quickly but I had a hard time getting pulled along with it.
Additionally I felt like they didn't explain things that were happening or how/why. Events happened but I do not understand why...for example...why/how does that bird know to swoop in and then carry the egg??
Time to discuss things as they are happening, how you felt at the end, or about the story as a whole. Just give a bit of warning if you will be giving spoilers! Happy reading!

I have finished the first two chapters. The characters have met are are starting their journey. So far I am feeling pretty neutral - there has been some world building and some getting to know Balsa, but I hardly know the other character at all. I am interested to unwrap the mystery of whats happening and get to know the other character too!
I am DONE!! so glad Young Ian is back. Everything around his coming back though just makes it feel like a plot devise that he even left. UGH. I honestly feel u can skip this book and have a 5 bullet cliff notes. sooooo unnecessarily long.

I also have it ready - trying to finish Outlander and my other stragglers before I start it. Probably won't be until Feb for me.
Hello Aja! Welcome!I just recently set this up to have a place to discuss books with my friends and am excited someone else would like to read with us! We will be starting with Book of the Month in February.
About me: I LOVE fantasy. Harry Potter unleashed my love for all things magical including books! I love a good Epic Fantasy with fun characters and interesting world building. Recently I am also open to romance that has a bit of a fantasy spin - more knights and masquerades to werewolves/vampires though.
Some of my favorite series include: Symphony of Ages by Elizabeth Haydon, Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, Lightbringer by Brent Weeks and Outlander (until book 5 that is) by Diana Galbadon.
I am also a HUGE geek for Manga. I read it all - all genres and age categories.
Just hit Part 9 I think. Seems like the last arc. I can tell things are "coming together".I am a bit disappointed since I've kinda been spoiled at this point since people have been trying to convince me to keep going. I see the pieces falling into place with the arrival of this Christie fellow and Jamie's story about the event at the prison...
Plus people have told me something with Duncan will happen and that Ian is coming back.
So now I am just waiting for those event and I can see them coming with the things being dropped here and there.
Let's just get this over with so I can be spoiler free again!

So....I started this book years ago. I loved the first one - enjoyed the second. Things started slowing down for me from the 3rd forward, but I have never encountered such a challenge as this book.#1 its a beast - nearly 1500 pages I think.
Incoming SPOILERS
So the things I have problems with in this particular book...
Most books I fall in love with a character or a few. Those characters pull me through the slow times. Now of course yes I love Jamie and he is in this book...but the chemistry between him and Claire is just more somber and almost routine. I had been liking Brianna and Roger, but then they came to this time...and now they are no fun at all. I additionally love Fergus, but his time is super scattered and all over the place. What made me the most bitter was at the end of 4: the departure of Young Ian. I had finally started to enjoy his character a bunch and then he is GONE. UGH. SO I started this book on a bad foot really. For me it has yet to pick up off that foot. It's VERY political and everyone seems to be borderline grumpy with each other the whole time....
Where I am right now...it was getting interesting - felt like Jamie and Roger were mending their strained relationship and then..BAM...dying Jamie. I wanted to through the book across the room and burn it.
I have 300 pages left....and hope I can finish it before February.....I think its been almost 4 years since I started the dang thing. UGH.
