I have been having the same problem off and on the last few months. I have to force out the noise in my mind in order to settle into a book, and it doesn't always work... I get fidgety or have to switch what I am reading. I discovered that having ambient background sounds or music helps, especially "Skyrim" music.

Awwww, congrats on training her, she'll be your beastie now. I had on that liked to sit in my lap and talk on the phone with me. :3

Yes, I identified more with the new Mrs. de Winter also.... I get her feeling of intimidation and fear of making mistakes but I wanted to scream at her as well. She's very kind, charming and sweet... however the head house keeper is going out of her way to cause problems/make her feel bad for not "measuring up to Rebecca" and she just continues to take it. She's lady of the house and it is okay to own it by saying "that was THEN, this is my house and we're doing things this way NOW."

I had the same issue with Rebecca, when I read it last year... it's got a slow build up but it was very worth reading. I don't want to spoil anything.... Rebecca is a bee with a huge itch though, so is the head house keeper.

Yup, I am with you on that Janice, I cry every time I read Black Beauty, also! I don't think I have ever seen the movie, they did a new version of it recently didn't they?

I need to re-read "Black Beauty", great story, it stirs up all the emotions! "Gone with the wind" is on my need to read list. :)
