The Hampton Public Library and the Mariners' Museum and Park present the life and legacy of Admiral Horatio Nelson.

About this event:
Join us on Zoom as we host a presentation by The Mariners’ Museum and Park on Admiral Horatio Nelson. A name as well-known around the world as Christopher Columbus, Napoleon, or even the President of the United States. How did this fame come to pass? Every leader must have a mixture of both arrogance and humility. Nelson certainly did. But these characteristics must be in balance. Nelson tended to show his humble, almost spiritual side in private or in close company for all his heroism. In public, he often became the quintessential “Master Thespian,” playing the hero’s role to the hilt! We’ll explore the enigma that was Nelson -- his life and the legends that surrounded him, the ships he sailed in, the conflicts and the battles lost and gained, the men in his life, and the women! And we’ll analyze and critique the final battle that won him global acclaim, Trafalgar.

Presented by Ron Lewis, a Docent at The Mariner's Museum and Park

Presenter Bio:
Ron is a Tidewater native. Born in Portsmouth, he was educated first at Old Dominion College (yes it was just a college back then) where he met his wife, Chris, then finished his education at an out-of-state institution. He is retired as a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) for New York Life Investment Management and NYLIFE Securities. Ron is a highly active member of The Museum’s Speakers’ Bureau, the Bronze Door Society, and the Hampton Roads Ship Model Society. While visiting museum, one can find Ron inside of the Ship Modelmaker’s Shop building and restoring models for the museum and other organizations.
