The Odyssey is a play about the Greek story of a man named Odysseus. This story takes place ten years after the Trojan War and the fall of Troy. After Odysseus did not return home to Ithaca after the war he was presumed to be dead. As a result his palace was raided and overrun with suitors attempting to court Penelope. Also in this palace along with the suitors and Penelope is her son Telemachus. The suitors later plan to assassinate Telemachus because he is the only thing preventing them from completely taking over.During this disaster with Penelope and her son back at home Odysseus is alive and well trapped on an island by a nymph name Calypso who is madly in love with him. While on his voyage many people become involved such as Athena who is his protector and Poseidon who is his rival and who holds a grudge over Odysseus blinding his son Polyphemus the Cyclops. Along with these adventures he encounters siren, rough storms, Cyclopes and much more. In the end he does get home and he realizes all these suitors and pursuing his wife and he plans to kill them all with Telemachus. The only one who originally recognizes Odysseus when he returns however is his dog Argus. He later reveals himself to everyone and they accept the fact that Odysseus was still alive.
This was a very interesting book. I chose this book because I am interested in US history. Eisenhower was one of our country's better presidents and was interested in learning more about him. I wold rate this book with four stars because while it was a good book some of the details raders would want to know were missing.Eisenhower was born in Denison Texas and grew up to be a strong military leader and our 35th president. He became interested in the military and its history at a very early age when he began reading his mother's history books. He was not always high on people's lists however and was denied many requests to go to posts overseas. He was placed in posts that he did not see fit for himself such as training tank crews.
The Great Gatsby is a book that has many events that lead to death and despair. Gatsby is the main character and is a rich man with a flashy house. He throws extravagant parties every weekend but does not attempt to interact with the guests. The story unfolds as Gatsby tries to reveal his feelings while Daisy hides hers. Tom is in an affair with Myrtle who is married to a poor mechanic who lives in the Valley of Ashes. The story becomes very interesting as the story unfolds.
