Oh poor Sybil! You deserved better. Not to reduce everything down into modern terms but Dorian was acting like a f**kboy who was mad that his manic pixie dream girl turned out to be an actual person. He was only ever in love with the idea of Sybil as I was afraid of. Lord Henry is absolutely despicable by the way. His opinions on women make me nauseous. I only hope both these men get what they deserve.
Not too much to say here other than I adore Sybil and want to protect her. I feel like she's about to get some heartbreak. Also the main men in this book do not seem high opinion of women. I just kind of want that to bite them in the behind but I doubt that happens!
Once again I am struck by the lyrical tone of the book! Oh Dorian, you dramatic man. I'm kind of swoony over how dramatically he described his love (such as it is) for Sybil. Do I believe he loves her? Not really. He seems very flighty emotionally. I'm reminded of how JM Barrie described Tinkerbell, only able to feel one emotion at a time but it would be the most intense of version of that emotion. That's how I see Dorian. And poor Henry, so jaded about everything. I'm interested in seeing how this Dorian/Sybil romance plays out.
I'm Jericca, 32, big book reader trying to expand the classics I've read! This is my first time reading this book so I'm super excited. I'm also reading Jane Eyre for Victober since I got a cool illustrated edition.
Wow, Wilde's writing is much more lyrical than I thought it would be. Harry seems like he's going to be a bad influence on Dorian in the upcoming chapters and I'm not sure how I feel about that at the moment.
