1210 Bartek, great analysis. I think it's spot on. You can definitely see the same theme in some of his (not as good) other novels especially Eye in the Sky and Maze of Death. Maze of Death happens to have been written at almost the same time as Ubik. So I think those works reinforce the idea.

1210 Paul, great list! That's exactly what I would list as well. On some days I'd be tempted to swap in VALIS or Flow My Tears though for the last two. The first three are unquestionably the best.

1210 Eye in the Sky is my favorite minor novel of Pkd. But I haven't read many of them.

1210 Hey Joseph--I am through chapter 9 on Eye in the Sky. Really enjoying it. I see a lot of comparisons to Ubik in it so far. The part that interests me most so far is the juxtaposition between a world with "laws" albeit strange ones (Silvester's world) to a world shifting on whims (Mrs. Pritchet's). I can't wait to see how things go.

1210 Ditto on what Andrea said. Is it happening? I haven't seen any decent news on it for months.

1210 I gave it five stars. Now that you've re-read it what would you rate it? When I read it, I felt that the central theme was the unreliability of human perception and the human struggle to impose meaning, narrative, and order on events when humanity actually has no ability to do so. Can you explain what you mean about the central theme of sacrifice? I'd be fascinated to hear your POV.
