Welcome, AJ! I do not know Limbs of the Pine, Peaks of the Range. Thanks for the recommendation. I might suggest Barry Lopez's Desert Notes to you.

1211609 Welcome! This is group dedicated to nature and science writers. If your book falls into the category of Natural History, Nature Writing and Essays, Conservation, Environment, Nature & Ecology, or other related fields, this is a group for you. Who are you reading? Who are your favorite authors in these spaces? What have you published in these categories? What are you working on?

I'll go first. My name is Ret and I'm a science writer who primarily covers ocean issues for general interest science magazines like NatGeo, Discover, Yale e360, etc. My next book, written with shark biologist Greg Skomal, releases in July 2023 and is about the resurgence in the white shark population in the western North Atlantic. It is narrative nonfiction--part natural history and part conservation success story. Some of my favorite contemporary authors in this space are Oliver Sacks, David Quammen, Mary Roach, Sy Montgomery, Natalie Angier, and Siri Carpenter. I also adore writers like Rick Bass, Annie Dillard, Rachel Carson, Barry Lopez, and others whose writing tends a bit more toward the literary. I'm currently reading a lot of scientific papers in preparation for my next project.
