Separation is itself a hard decision to take specially when both the parties have a child.
Although I know that both the parties go through an emotional turmoil, the child must be the foremost priority. His/her comfort and mental health must come first.
And if you ask me about the property or material things - then that should be divided in a fair process. It is a very subjective matter, and in my opinion, it should not be generalised.
