I will need someone to do the July/August nominations and poll and start the discussion, as I am having surgery.

This is a personal favorite of mine. I've read the second and have the third book on my TBR. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. I can't wait to hear your opinions.
Here's the blurb: A slow-burning romance and a chilling mystery bind two singular men in the suspenseful first book of a new Victorian series from K. J. Charles.Lodging-house keeper Clem Talleyfer prefers a quiet life. He’s happy with his hobbies, his work—and especially with his lodger Rowley Green, who becomes a friend over their long fireside evenings together. If only neat, precise, irresistible Mr. Green were interested in more than friendship...
Rowley just wants to be left alone—at least until he meets Clem, with his odd, charming ways and his glorious eyes. Two quiet men, lodging in the same house, coming to an understanding... it could be perfect. Then the brutally murdered corpse of another lodger is dumped on their doorstep and their peaceful life is shattered.
Now Clem and Rowley find themselves caught up in a mystery, threatened on all sides by violent men, with a deadly London fog closing in on them. If they’re to see their way through, the pair must learn to share their secrets—and their hearts.
What did you think of the book? Have you read this author before? Do you like her books? Will you continue this series?

I wondered about that stuff too but found the book overall enjoyable. I think Cal was probably explained as living at the orchard because he was an investor/business partner who didn't live around there. And since they were war buddies it was just fine. I have a feeling Mrs. O'Brien helped a bit with the "cover-up". I doubt the in-laws ever got over themselves, I think the only way that would have happened is if Jim explained the whole Eddie thing and he was too kind for that.
