1240569 Hi, Joseph. Thanks for commenting. It took me some number of years to admit to my family and friends the kind of books I love as well, and then I've only told those whom I deeply trust and would not judge me.

I'm really loving Chandler Morrison and Edward Lee is becoming a hit or miss author for me; but, most of his works I've read are, at the very least, enjoyable.

Have you read any Samantha Kolesnik or C.J. Leede?
1240569 Food: The Three Course Omnibus by Jeffrey Caston
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

"The prix fixe... pain and misery!

This is not a cookbook...

This is not a menu...

This is not a plan for your next dinner party...

But it IS a recipe—of sorts.

What follows are three courses of dystopian, culinary misery created by appetites and decadence that threatens to consume civilization-along with humanity itself."

1240569 There are some clubs out there with challenges that seem to draw in a number of participants and I, myself, have participated in them. I was thinking about adding a challenge for 2026.

We've read a number of firsts in series here over the past year and a half, so maybe if I create a challenge listing the sequels to firsts you guys may want to engage? I don't know. What do you think?

Does anyone have any suggestions for possible challenges next year that might be fun?

1240569 And finished.

I'm not sure how to feel about this one as a whole. While it has some truly grotesque scenes, at its heart it's a story about loneliness and the desire for normalcy.

Steven's mental state slowly deteriorates as experience after experience causes his descent into a deep psychosis. He wants power and adoration and (view spoiler)

Lucy, the soon-to-be-mother of his child is also struggling with her own delusions of impurity.

This was super fucking depressing. Most gory scenes were manageable...(view spoiler)

Nevertheless, I'm intrigued by this author and plan to read more of his work.
1240569 The Cotton Candy Massacre (The Cotton Candy Massacre #1) by Christopher Robertson
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

"The book you are about to read is an account of the tragedy that occurred at the reopening of Bonkin's Bonanza one day in the summer of 1989.

Some came looking for fun, like Candy Barton and her best friend, Leigh. Others, like Rocky Rhodes and Sully Sullivan, came looking for a second chance. Instead, they would find a twisted, funfetti nightmare.

For many of the thrill-seekers and families visiting Bonkin's Bonanza, that day would be their last. And the events that unfolded would go on to become infamously known as The Cotton Candy Massacre."

1240569 Yes. I tried to do it today but the website lagged when I clicked “Save”, and then Goodreads thought I was a bot so it locked me out of doing anything else, including messaging the group of the winners. This is a nearly every month thing and is so frustrating. I will attempt to create the thread tomorrow afternoon and send out the message.

1240569 I'm about 60% in at this point and I like it, although I'm not exuberant by any means. The writing is mediocre and it's super depressing. There's some truly gross stuff in here (probably the worst I've ever read), but I'm entertained nonetheless. I do want to see how this plays out for Steven.

1240569 #thighgap by Chandler Morrison
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

"Los Angeles fashion model Helen Troy wasn’t always skinny. Drastic weight loss has given her everything–money, confidence, attention, respect. Being thin has legitimized her, and starvation has become an addiction.

Following an encounter with a seemingly “perfect” rival model who destabilizes Helen’s shaky self-confidence and shatters her fragile illusion of control, she’s sent into a tragic tailspin that will take her to the lowest depths of hell. Nightmarish versions of herself begin materializing in mirrors, and her tried-and-true coping mechanisms stop working. Reality comes apart at the seams as Helen’s disease manifests in increasingly self-destructive fashions, forcing her to ask herself…

What does perfection look like, and how much would you sacrifice to obtain it?"

1240569 Welp...let's see how I fare with it. I started it today...on my lunch hour, actually, while eating potato soup. Our main character has just gotten to the slaughter house for work. I'm feeling pretty confident that even if it gets into the grotesque of the slaughter house activities, I'll be able to handle it because what goes on there is nothing new to me. These reasons are the EXACT reasons I do not eat beef. We shall see!

1240569 Nah. I’ll still allow them. They are good choices and the books shouldn’t be disallowed just because the member was.

Another member deserves ALL of the credit for this one. No due diligence on my part. They brought it up with me. I won't divulge their name because I haven't been given permission. Just know, we have another member who is watching out very closely for us.
1240569 I just wanted to let everyone know that I had to remove Gohnar from our group because they falsified their age to join our group. They are a minor, not born in 1999. This also means they are blocked from rejoining until they reach 18. So, they will not be continuing in the discussion thread going forward.

The nice things is, the thread will stay here indefinitely; so, when you can read Ingest Me, too, you can go to that thread to post your thoughts.

1240569 I feel kind of let down by this one. While it was entertaining, it was also rather mundane and meandering. Is it just me or did it feel repetitive towards the end? Just when I thought it was in a good place to wrap things up, there were 30 more pages left. I liked the concept of the wedding, and Lillith’s twist at the end, but by then it was also not so surprising…know what I mean? Anyway, I rated it two stars, it was just alright, but nothing new or earth-shattering. Glad to finally have finished it.

1240569 I've kind of been in a mental slump this week and haven't been reading much. I started this one a day or so ago and have read the first 24 pages. I'm finding it engrossing and mysterious. Hoping to finish it up this weekend.
