There are 851 holds on The Women in the Delaware Library system so it was going to be a long wait for me to read the latest from Kristin Hannah. Luckily, my sister had gotten a copy when she saw the author speak so I didn't have to wait. Again Kristin Hannah knocks it out of the park with an emotionally powerful look at the Vietnam war and the women who served there as nurses. I was in college during a good part of the war and the story really took me back and made me think.
Brenda wrote: "Finished Priory of the Orange Tree last night. Rated it a 4. Took off half a point for taking so long to really get into it and another half point for caring about the dragon more than any of the o..."I Everytime this book popped up in a book newsletter or Facebook post, I was intrigued by the beautiful cover and the unique title. I don't read a lot of fantasy but I really enjoyed this one. I'm hoping she writes a sequel (I think she's written a prequel) Oh, and I love anything with dragons.
Just finished Fellowship Point by Alice Elliot Dark. I read this for a Book Cougar's buddy read. This is a book that you want to read slowly and savor the beautiful writing. I'm going to miss Agnes and Polly!!
Tama wrote: "Just finished Still Life by Sarah Winman. Beautifully written with wonderful scenes of life in Italy. For me it was a slow read, but I loved the characters and found family." I was so pleasantly surprised with this book. It was so much more than the title or the blurb made it sound.
Just finished Envy by Sandra Brown for a Book Cougar discussion later this summer. Not something I would ordinarily read but I have not had so much fun reading a book in a long time. Twisty, dark, and sexy. I couldn't put it down.
Hottest day of the year so far and I'm reading Fire Weather by John Vaillant. Appropriate but scary!!'
I'm reading Katherine by Anya Seton. This was written in 1954 when apparently romances by women author's like Georgette Heyer and Anya Seton were at their peak of popularity. I've been following the Book Cougars podcast which is exploring the theme of romance this year and I wanted to read this book because I'm intrigued by what makes a book a romance and what makes it a love story or are they the same thing. This is the story of the love between Katherine Swynford and John Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster in fourteenth century England.
I recently finished Still Life by Sarah Winman. Charming, endearing, heartwarming novel about the love and family. Not necessarily the family we're born with but also the family we create. I chose this book at the time from Jenny Colvin's TBR as part of an effort on the part of the Book Cougars to choose a book from the TBR of JennyColvin's TBR as a way to honor her memory. This had been on my TBR list for ages, but like so many books, had fallen off my radar after I put it on my Goodreads list. Thanks you Jenny and Book Cougars. I'm so glad I read this book!!
