Hello, all! Sorry it has been so quiet on here lately.I just got around to updating the the PMBA reading list according the the updates Josh posted on the website: http://personalmba.com/2012-reading-l...
Our list should now match the reading list on the website: http://personalmba.com/best-business-...
Feel free to compare the lists and let me know if you catch any errors.
All the best!
Welcome, Daniel! We're currently doing a group read of Josh Kaufman's book The Personal MBA. Feel free to pick up a copy and join us!
I think it also depends how many books from the list you've already read prior to reading this book. Often you can almost tell from which book he is gathering his ideas.Having all that information summarized in one volume I find very useful. They are summarized and organized in a way that is easy to follow and understand. I rather view the PMBA book as a syntheses of the best business ideas.
That said, the PMBA book is not the only way to organize all the ideas. I'm sure if we read all the books in the reading list plus other books that we personally have found useful, we could come up with our own way of organizing those information. But how many of us are disciplined enough to summarize everything we've read and come up with a system to organize that information?
Also, being a business student myself, I can say that the focus of what is taught in this book and what is taught in school is very different, in my experience. Business school does not teach you how to start your own business. Instead they focus on how to be an executive in a large corporation - in other words, how to get a job.
The PMBA book lays the framework on how businesses work so that you can go about and create your own.
We will be starting discussion on the PMBA book hopefully this week. This is our first book to do a group read. We'll start doing other books soon.Feel free to start a discussion! We can have multiple discussion on the same book.
I haven't started the new discussion yet. We can start one when we are ready. Just select the Book Discussions folder when you create the new thread.
Hello!Just checking on how everyone is doing on reading the PMBA book.
I did finish the book. Although I kind of got distracted from Goodreads by Google+. Lol. Hopefully there will be a way to integrate the two soon.
We can start discussions about the PMBA in the discussions folder.
Sure. I'm willing to give it a try.Another way we can go about this is to add reviews to the books. Using the group's bookshelf, you can read reviews written only be group members. You can even comment on other people's reviews.
Thanks!I updated the bookshelves to include the 99 books on the list (http://personalmba.com/best-business-...) plus the PMBA book itself.
Let me know if you find any errors. Thanks!
I have The Personal MBA and have read most of it by now. I would be interested to share ideas with those with similar interests!I think it would be great to have a PMBA community on Goodreads.
