You will encounter many Indian words, please look them up online. You will not have any trouble finding the definitions. Knowing vocabulary is essential to understanding and enjoyment of any book:)...especially those books with foreign words.
1. Pay attention to how the British colonialists and India natives think, feel, and act toward each other.2. Also pay attention to "western" mindset and attitudes as opposed to "eastern" mindset and attitudes presented by each character. You will most likely relate to one but be "puzzled" by the other.
3. Three major religions are discussed in this book: Christianity, Islam and Hinduism. Does Foster favor one?
Our 1st book of 2nd semester is A Passage to India,You might want to do somw quick research into Britain's relationship with India during the early 1900's. This is a fascinating account of political and cultural conflicts and prejudice.
