personally, the representation didn't feel forced. I didn't realize that the characters were queer until later on (like i didn't notice, then went back when it was brought up again). i feel like most of the outrage might be because the character were then like: why cant our society be like this? (their society discourages people from seriously dating, due to a high emphasis on genetically "preferred" matches, with marriages that aren't genetically preferable resulting in anyone involved being ostracized - resulting in a very cisheteronormative society)



also, this might be me projecting, but alvar (side character) read as super aro-coded
