I'm the same way with books that are overhyped. I just now, in August lol, read It Ends with Us. I put it off for so long because of the hype around it and the author.It was pretty good but it wasn't great.
I also read Stone Blind and A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes. I really enjoy her feminist retellings of the Greek myths.
Another one that I really liked this month was The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches. That was our book club pick and we all loved it.

ACOTAR is definitely on my list. A friend of mine recently read them and has raved about them. I feel like it's going to be similar to when I finally read the Lunar Chronicles last year and kicked myself for waiting so long!

1st four books:Gods of Jade and Shadow - this was my bookclub pick this month and I enjoyed it. This author can be hit or miss for me but I enjoyed reading a book based on Mayan mythology which I knew nothing about.
The Grave's a Fine and Private Place - the 9th installment of the Flavia de Luce series. It's about an extremely precocious 12 year old set in 1950s England. Great historical mystery series.
The Circus Train - the writing was a bit clunky but I'm a sucker for WWII historical fiction.
The Golden Tresses of the Dead - the tenth (and maybe last?) installment of the Flavia de Luce series.
Hi, Jessica! You read some good books this month with Cursed and The House in the Cerulean Sea both on my TBR list. Here's what I read in November:Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. Probably the best book I've read in 2022. Big hit with the book club. A heartwarming story of a lonely woman and a Pacific octopus. The writing style reminded me of Fredrick Backman.
Emma by Jane Austen. This was the Audible version narrated by Emma Thompson and it was great!
Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka. This was the toughest read this month. It's the story of a serial killer but told through the perspectives of the women around him (his mother, his ex-wife's sister, and the female cop who caught him). Heavy subject matter but I appreciated the attempt to tell a hard story through the women.
Sense & Second-Degree Murder by Tirzah Price. I really liked her first book but I wasn't crazy about this one. Maybe it had something to do with Sense & Sensibility being my least favorite Austen novel?
Cinder by Marissa Meyer. I loved, loved, loved this one! So looking forward to finishing the series.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. This was another Audible version, this time narrated by Joanne Froggatt (from Downton Abbey).
Scarlet. This second installment of The Lunar Chronicles was just as good as the first!

Sounds like that one was a bit of a miss!I have now finished school (yay me!) so I had much more time to read this month:
The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James. This was better than I thought it would be. I don't normally like paranormal stuff but this was well done. Loved the whole atmosphere too.
As Chimney Sweepers Come to Dust by Alan Bradley. I absolutely love this series about an extremely precocious 12-year-old, Flavia, and her attempts to solve local mysteries. She is charming and the audiobooks are just as good as the books.
A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham. This book used every trope you can think of for a thriller but it was still great. Kept me reading way past my bedtime each night!
The Forest of Vanishing Stars by Kristin Harmel. I love WWII historical fiction so this was right up my alley. It was like a female book version of the movie Defiance about a large group of Jews who hid in the dense forests of Belarussia during WWII.
Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King. This was our book club pick and it made me wonder why I haven't read more of King's books. This was a collection of short stories about the monster that can be within people. The second story, Big Driver, was particularly disturbing.
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. I listened to this one and it was pretty good. Modern fantasy-type stuff.
Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins. I listened to this one as well and it was charming. I'll be reading the rest of this series soon.
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. I loved this book and how it made me think about life's choices and how we're all really as happy as we decide to be.
A Cold Nose for Murder by Jennifer Hawkins. Cozy mysteries aren't normally my thing but we read the first one of this series for book club earlier this year. I have to say, I really liked it. But, this is still a genre that has to be very well done for me to enjoy as I've tried others since then and didn't really like them.
