Actually feel like I'm making progress with Sarum. It's not, in places, an easy read, and some areas are an uncomfortable read - such as the sexual content regarding minors, though of course in history they were of child bearing and marriage age. In general I'm enjoying it. Will be interesting to see how much of it is true, like the history of certain families. In terms of the book challenge, I could have read probably 3 books so far to this one, its so long!
If you like historic themed drama/murder mystery/mystery books then C J Sansom's Shardlake series is excellent. Based around the time of Henry VIII and follows a lawyer who has to solve mysteries. Based around historical events. Also excellent is Kate Mosse - her Labyrinth Trilogy is a brilliant read, as is her Winter Ghosts.
I've thought of having them in the car but I'm sure I'd miss loads! Might be good when gardening though.
How do you get on with audio books? I often have thought of trying them but I don't think I would take it all in and would be constantly rewinding.
Mine is slow progress. I try to read for a bit every day, but in this book, Sarum, every chapter is like a short book in itself. Kindle reckons it's nearly 36 hours to the end of the book!
