SOME WOMEN ARE CONSUMED BY THE FIRE. SOME BECOME THE FIRE.
An elite operative. A war-hardened soldier. A daring explorer. One strikes from the shadows to protect a deadly secret. One strives to reclaim what was taken from her. One searches the void for the answers denied her.
Their stories are their own, but they share a gritty determination to fight for what they believe in and an unwavering conviction that they can and will do whatever is necessary to save themselves, those they hold dear and, if worse comes to worst (as it always does), civilization itself.
FORGED FROM THE STARS brings you the first books in three exciting, original space opera adventure series, Ziva Payvan, Spectras Arise, and Aurora Rising. These epic tales feature empires that stretch across the vastness of space, suspenseful action as new worlds are discovered and old ones destroyed, thrilling interstellar warfare and deadly conspiracies that promise to reshape galaxies.
At the heart of the storm stand three women: Ziva Payvan. Aly Erikson. Alexis Solovy. Forged from the stars, in the face of overwhelming odds they will bend those stars to their will--or die trying.

The distant world of Haphez is located on the edge of populated space. The planet’s native superhuman race is feared and respected by neighboring civilizations. Their military and police forces are unmatched.
Haphezian operative Ziva Payvan has spent most of her life being fashioned into a deadly weapon. Trained to fight and not feel, she focuses only on the mission at hand and never dwells in the past…a past that houses many secrets. But when those secrets start forcing their way back into her life, she begins to find herself in the unique position of needing to save lives rather than take them.
As Ziva and her ops team work in the shadows and struggle to survive, they find themselves pitted against the most personal and most deadly of enemies, enemies who threaten not only their own lives but the lives of everyone around them.

Definitely establish a presence on Twitter, if you haven't already. I think it has been BY FAR the most effective social media platform for me in terms of meeting and interacting with other authors and readers, especially ones that are interested in the same genres. I know if you end up using Createspace for paperbacks, you can select "Expanded Distribution" and that will allow bookstores and libraries to access and order your books to have in stock. Unfortunately there's no way to know when/if this happens (you don't get notified or anything), but there are some retailers like Barnes & Noble that get your books through ED and stock them on their website. I've found mine available from other places too like Powell's of Oregon and even college bookstores. It's always kind of fun to discover them in new places :)
I've reached out to my county library to see if they'd put some copies into circulation, and they were more than happy to. If you had any promotional items like posters or flyers to go along with them, that would certainly help. I know a lot of libraries have a "local authors" section. I also contacted the book trader in town (which is unfortunately our last "real" bookstore) and asked them if they'd like to stock my books, and they were also more than happy to. They've got a pretty sizable local authors section, and they actually asked for promo posters to hang in their windows. Then they invited me to a book signing featuring all of those local authors, and that was really fun. With an area the size of Phoenix, you've got a lot of resources at your disposal. Once you get your book(s) all set up and published, I'd start small with libraries and little mom-and-pop bookstores and then work your way up.
And it's a little thing, but invest in some decent business cards. I had mine done through Vistaprint and I highly recommend them for all promo materials, from bookmarks to posters to banners. They do excellent work for reasonable prices and they always have good coupon codes. The cards I made just have my name and email address along with little social media icons so people can look and see where they can find me. Then on the reverse side, I have a QR code that they can scan that takes them to my Amazon page. I want to do a new batch that has my website instead of my email (I feel like that would be more effective, and I see you do already have a site) but I still have a whole box of cards I haven't given out yet. *sigh*
Hi everyone!Today is the release of an epic sci fi collection I recently collaborated with Tammy Salyer and G.S. Jennsen on.
The collection is titled Forged From The Stars and contains the first novels in each of our sci fi series: Dakiti (Ziva Payvan Book 1) by yours truly, Contract of Defiance by Tammy, and Starshine by G.S.
All three books fall at some point on the space opera spectrum, with Dakiti and Contract of Defiance leaning a little more toward military and Starshine a little more toward space exploration and alien invasion.
You can currently get the entire collection for Kindle for a special release price of $0.99. We're not sure exactly how long it will stay at that price - at least a month. Grab a copy here.

Interesting - that does seem like a high price for a very low number of bookmarks, but I used Vistaprint for some author business cards and paid like $35 for 500, which I thought was pretty reasonable after poking around some of the other online printing services. I mean if you've got the cardstock and a printer that can handle it, I'd say go for it - print your own bookmarks! I'd be doing that constantly if I could, just for fun. I suppose fresh ink cartridges would get kinda expensive though.
Hi everyone! In anticipation/celebration of the upcoming release of Ronan: Ziva Payvan Book 3 on September 1, I'm offering the prequels for only $0.99 (for Kindle) for the entire month of August! If you haven't had a chance to check out these sci fi thrillers yet, now's a great time!

The Author Spotlight starts NOW at /r/books! Stop by with your questions/comments/ideas/insights! http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comment...
Hi everyone! I don't know how many of you use reddit but I'll be participating in an Author Spotlight on the /r/books subreddit this coming Tuesday, June 23. The event is scheduled to start at 11am PST but I'll likely be starting closer to 10. Anyone can come by and discuss my novels (the sci fi Ziva Payvan trilogy), talk shop about writing/books in general, or ask about my other nerdy hobbies and interests. This is a time for me to connect with readers (both established and potential) and other writers and I hope to have a good turnout. It should be a lot of fun! I'll update this thread with a direct link on the day of the event :)
This Friday, May 29, is the 1-year anniversary of the release of my first novel, Dakiti: Ziva Payvan Book 1. I like to describe the genre of the series as "sci-fi-meets-spy-thriller." As you might suspect, the story stars Ziva Payvan, an assassin who is a member of a superhuman race and works for the primary law enforcement agency on her planet. She by no means thinks of herself as a hero (she refers to herself as a "problem solver" and believes good and evil are kind of relative to the situation) but she often gets the role of hero thrust upon her, which is something she's not really a fan of.To celebrate the anniversary, I'm making the ebook available for FREE on Friday, and I invite everyone to check it out :)

That is so odd! I wasn't to find the review on the book's page either, but the link G.G. posted does indeed work. I too like to keep careful track of when reviews are posted on my books or even when people just add them to TBR lists, and sometimes the number will increase but there's nobody new on the list. I know the Goodreads system in general sometimes takes awhile to update things, but it's usually only a matter of waiting a couple of hours. I think in one case, it took a couple of days. This definitely sounds like more of a glitch than anything. You might try asking one of the librarians...?
Hi everyone, My sci fi novels Dakiti and Nexus are both FREE for Kindle today and tomorrow (3/14 - 3/15). If you like military/police sci fi with elements of thriller and mystery, these books are for you!

Hi friends! The Kindle version of my sci fi novel Dakiti is available for only $.99 for the entire month of November. The sequel, Nexus, is being released December 1 so I'm giving people an opportunity to get Book 1 for cheap before that. Dakiti will also be available for free this coming weekend (November 15, 16, and 17). If you like a fast-paced, action-packed story with strong female characters, and if you like sci-fi settings like Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica, this book is for you!If you choose to pick up a copy, I would also encourage you to leave an honest review when you're done. Reviews are huge when a reader is deciding whether to read a book and, subsequently, its sequel.
Dakiti is available here on Amazon

I'm a 5th year senior going for a degree in IT with a health information emphasis and a minor in medical sociology! My schedule is pretty light for this whole final year so it makes it a little easier to get away with writing instead of doing school work ;) I still find myself sitting in class and I realize I haven't heard a word of the lecture for the past 10 minutes because my brain has been on another planet...
Hi guys! I'm currently working on Nexus, the sequel to my first novel Dakiti. They're sci fi with environments and concepts that were heavily influenced by Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica. I'm actually done writing Nexus and it's currently in the editing/beta-reading stage and hovering around 145,500 words. Phew! The official release date is December 1 so I've still got about a month and a half to go. I'm on my third self-beta-read and am twiddling my thumbs while waiting for my editor and other beta readers to finish. It's starting to get exciting!I've also been trying to make a little progress on the third book in this trilogy as well. I've only got about 19,000 words done so far, but I've got more outlined and I have a pretty good idea of where the story needs to go. There's still a lot of planning to do, and all of this is really hard to work on during school :P
I write primarily sci-fi, usually space opera and action/adventure/thriller. Sci-fi has been my favorite genre ever since I saw Star Wars when I was little, and writing Star Wars fanfiction is actually how I got started writing in the first place. Settings like those in Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica are huge influences for the settings in my own writing. There's just something fun about sci-fi because you can use your imagination and don't necessarily have to follow traditional "Earth" rules. You can make a lot of stuff up, but nobody cares because it's about technology and concepts that don't really exist (yet, anyway!)The trilogy I'm currently working on takes place in a fictional universe on a variety of worlds I created. While humans do inhabit this universe, most of my main characters are members of a different superhuman race. I have a lot of creative license with the plot and setting I'm currently working on, although I've got another novel brewing in the back of my head that would take place here on Earth, 50 or so years in the future. It will require more careful planning, but it should be a lot of fun to write when I get around to it.
I also like to write characters who aren't necessarily heroes, or, even if they end up saving the day in the end, they had their own agenda and don't really view themselves as heroes. To me, that's more realistic than someone who is completely selfless and just dedicates their entire life to helping/saving other people. For example, the main protagonist in my current series is a special operations agent who basically kills for a living, but because of certain circumstances, she ends up having to use her survival/fighting skills to save and protect people. I've always found anti-hero characters a lot more interesting than your average black-and-white heroes and villains, so they're a lot more fun to write.
Hi everyone! I'm an indie author who has been writing seriously for about 8 or 9 years now. For a long time, writing was purely for fun - I never even considered publishing until this past spring, when I decided to resurrect one of my old sci fi novels and self-publish. It's called Dakiti and it's currently available in Kindle and paperback formats through Amazon. I'm in the process of publishing the sequel and it's scheduled for a "Holiday 2014" release (aka I still have no idea when but it will be sometime in November or December :P) Even though I don't have as big of an audience as I'd like, the publishing process has been a lot of fun and I'm glad I decided to do it.I've always been a fan of the sci fi genre, but I mostly just watch sci fi movies or play sci fi video games. Since I published, I've been trying to actually read a little more sci fi, particularly books by other indie authors. I'd highly recommend Starshine and Vertigo by G.S. Jennsen - they're very well-written, and I actually liked the sequel more.
Here's my Facebook profile. I'm always looking to connect with other authors and readers, particularly of the sci fi genreHere's my Facebook fan page
