As a part of the Wider Reading component of your English course Mrs Hamilton and I would like you to reflect on how you might enhance your reading experience to gain greater enjoyment and deeper understandings. You might find the following prompts useful.
What is your reading routine presently?
How often do you read? What do you read? Where do you read? For what purpose do you read?(eg gain information, revision, amusement, leisure, relaxation, etc.)
What are your strengths in regard to reading?
Are you fast? Can you skim through a text competently? Do you gather the gist easily? Are you able to find details in a text when necessary? What is your concentration like?
What areas of your reading would you like to improve?
If you were to set a goal for your reading what area would you focus upon for this semester? What strategies will you put in place to reach this goal? e.g. designate a specific time for reading at home, setting aside a tech-free time, talking to your teacher or librarians about possible books to read, visiting the local library, reading a book review weekly, trying a new author or genre? Reading some Australian literature? etc.

Where is your coolest place to read?
I am currently reading Things a map won’t show you. It is an anthology of different forms of writing: a mix of short stories and poetry, including a photo essay and a short graphic story. The editors are Melbourne teachers, and I’ve been meaning to read it for some time. Some of my favourite authors are included: James Roy, Tara Jane Winch, Sonya Hartnett and Michael Pryor.I generally like to read a variety of genres. An anthology like this is great value when you have limited reading time.
I love to read and can read almost anywhere, in bed at night, on the tram, at the beach.

You might want share something about your reading, maybe a secret place to read, favourite author, a book that you will keep forever, a recommendation for your classmates, etc.
