I have begun reading Little Bets, and the point that resonates most with me so far is that failure is endemic and part of success. We all have to be willing to fail, and keep failing, and keep learning, and keep improving to find our way to success. I really like this quote from Edison who famously said a lot about failure. Edison said, “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” and “Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” and “Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration.” This is a recurring theme of the book and, of life, that we should keep failing, keep learning to improve. I will keep reading and hope others join the discussion.
Jason Fried and David Hansson have been on the vanguard of working remotely with their company 37signals. They also are the producers of the web-based collaborative suite Basecamp. It this book them make a compelling case that the train is leaving the station for work anywhere. It is no longer a case of can it work, but how quickly can innovative companies prove this is working to produce more competitive results for employees, customers, and entrepreneurs. Good read.
