FYI, the opening game of the 2014 season is tonight at 8pm, Dodgers vs. Padres! I believe the Dodgers will be starting Carl Erskine.

Note that Mark Ellis is conspicuously absent from their lineup.

For inspiration, I posted some crappy cell phone photos I took last week at two spring training games. Baseball!

My early thoughts on TBoS:

I could do without the childhood bits, mostly because I feel like I've read about kids playing stickball in NYC about a million times. I do like the accounts of working at the newspaper, however - that's pretty entertaining.

My favorite part so far is the conversation between Kahn and Fresco Thompson on the airplane. I bet baseball guys are pretty fun to talk to, since they spend most of their lives sitting/standing around and shootin' the shit.

Guys! I have chosen the first book, which is The Boys of Summer by Roger Kahn, a classic about the Brooklyn Dodgers. Perhaps we can try to read it by opening day, which is March 31? Although maybe that is pushing it.
