I took a break from this book because I felt I was reading it too fast, and read two other books in the meantime. Will get back to it after I finish the new Dan Simmons.
No, no, I did like it. I meant it was 'tough' as in it was a difficult thing to read about. So far I am liking the book.
lol, well i mean, things have happened. it just hasn't turned into a rip-roaring adventure yet. (and that is perfectly okay - maybe it just isn't that kind of book)
so, what's everyone thinking? so far, i think it is good. not much seems to be happening yet. but that may change.
Matthew wrote: "So Spielberg is going to direct the movie. I'm curious to see how that goes. I can definitely imagine a movie being better than the book. I can also imagine a movie being a disaster. I'm not sure w..."I think it could work. But how are they going to get the rights to all the things referenced in the book? That sounds like a legal nightmare.
Dan wrote: "rather than inception, I imagine that is the most successful version of what Second Life wanted to be."I remember thinking this exact thing while reading this. Totally agree.
Wil Wheaton actually does audiobooks quite well. I listened to him reading a book by John Scalzi and it turned out to be quite good. And Beth - I know how you feel. But he is cool when he is a Teenage Fuck Machine.
I read this book not too long ago, so I am still pretty fresh with it. I really enjoyed it and I hope everyone else does too!
I haven't noticed anything too Japanese as of yet, probably due to the translation. I would like a little more of the culture to find its way into the narrative.Funny that you mention smoking in sci-fi. Kelley and I just watched Blade Runner, and everyone smokes constantly in that movie. It is like Mad Men. Maybe something horrific will happen in the future to make everyone smoke again. Like a nuclear war.
Started reading today - am on page 23. I can't remember the last time I listened to that song, but I will later!
Thanks for the well reference. It makes a bit more sense now in the context of the book.
As far as 1987 being now...COLD WAR!
I've been trying to say it "Now-koh" in my head, which is how I think a Japanese person could say it. I may be wrong, though.
This was fun, keep 'em coming.
