130040 I took a break from this book because I felt I was reading it too fast, and read two other books in the meantime. Will get back to it after I finish the new Dan Simmons.

130040 No, no, I did like it. I meant it was 'tough' as in it was a difficult thing to read about. So far I am liking the book.

130040 lol, well i mean, things have happened. it just hasn't turned into a rip-roaring adventure yet. (and that is perfectly okay - maybe it just isn't that kind of book)

130040 I'm nearing page 200. I think I will slow down. Got some comics that need catching up on anyhow.

130040 so, what's everyone thinking? so far, i think it is good. not much seems to be happening yet. but that may change.

I think it could work. But how are they going to get the rights to all the things referenced in the book? That sounds like a legal nightmare.

I remember thinking this exact thing while reading this. Totally agree.

130040 Wil Wheaton actually does audiobooks quite well. I listened to him reading a book by John Scalzi and it turned out to be quite good.

And Beth - I know how you feel. But he is cool when he is a Teenage Fuck Machine.

130040 I read this book not too long ago, so I am still pretty fresh with it. I really enjoyed it and I hope everyone else does too!

130040 I haven't noticed anything too Japanese as of yet, probably due to the translation. I would like a little more of the culture to find its way into the narrative.

Funny that you mention smoking in sci-fi. Kelley and I just watched Blade Runner, and everyone smokes constantly in that movie. It is like Mad Men. Maybe something horrific will happen in the future to make everyone smoke again. Like a nuclear war.

130040 Started reading today - am on page 23.

I can't remember the last time I listened to that song, but I will later!

Thanks for the well reference. It makes a bit more sense now in the context of the book.

As far as 1987 being now...COLD WAR!

I've been trying to say it "Now-koh" in my head, which is how I think a Japanese person could say it. I may be wrong, though.

This was fun, keep 'em coming.
