When I was a kid the library was a safe haven for sissies like me because the local bullies never, ever went there. They may not even have know where it was. I could go and sit quietly and read without anyone calling me a faggott (somehow everyone but me knew by third grade). Also, during the hot, muggy, mosquito-laden New Jersey summers, the library was an oasis of air-conditioning.
