13291 I ended up really loving that book. It was one of my favorites of last year.

13291 Just, whatever you do, don't listen to the audiobook of The Last Child. It's the worst audiobook I've ever listened to. The narrator spoke slowly, enunciated very peculiarly, and pronounced a lot of words strangely. (Who in that part of the country pronounces been as bean? Or again as a-gayne?) It was awful, awful.

13291 I have just started reading Brooklyn, even though I have heard from others who've read it that it's not as good as the critics said. It was also nominated for the Booker prize, and I know lots of people thought it didn't quite deserve it. I'm going in with lowered expectations, so hopefully I'll enjoy it more than I'm expecting to.

But yes, his previous book, The Master is supposed to be brilliant (it's on my TBR).

13291 Glad to finally hear from some people who've read Carter's work! I've been interested because we share a last name! Silly reason for reading an author, I know, but I can't help it! I'll definitely check his books out now. (I always say "he's my cousin X" for anyone named Carter. Like Jimmy Carter: "that's my uncle Jimmy". LOL.)
13291 Oh my gosh! I have SO many books I could list here. Maybe if I have some free time I'll list them tomorrow, but you will be shocked at the number, I'm sure! I have a terrible book buying habit. Although I swear my Kindle (and the free books I can get) is helping some!
