136475 Question for discussion: It's been said that Lionheart is such a jerk in this part. But Lionheart didn't wake up one morning and decide, "I'm going to be a jerk to everyone I most care about." So . . . what is motivating this character? WHY is he choosing to behave the way he is? Is it pure jerkish-ness or is there something more going on here?

Also, how do you think Rose Red would have behaved if their roles were switched? And why?

How do you think Foxbrush might have behaved if their roles were switched? And why?

Give it a little exploration . . .

136475 The pronunciation of "Varvare" is up to interpretation. I pronounce it "VAR-var-ay" with an accent on the "e" simply because that goes with Lumé and Hymlumé and other Faerie names. But technically speaking, if this was how her name was meant to be pronounced, she should also have that accent on the end . . .

I suspect that "Var-VAIR" is the correct pronunciation, though I will probably always pronounce it Varvaré out of habit . . .

I know, dear Imps! I know I should give you a pronunciation guide! But so many of these names are names from our world that I don't know the "real" pronunciation for, so I've always been shy to put down hard-and-fast rules. I should probably toughen up and just DO IT one of these days. *blush*

136475 Munny is actually a bit difficult to pronounce. I had to get my Asian husband to teach me how to say the name correctly. He told me that with a name sporting two "n"s like that, both n's would be pronounced, ending up with a sound rather like the "n" in "jalapeno."

"Moony" is not correct, but it's CLOSE to correct (which is why Leo mispronounces it that way. He's close, but not quite there). If you pronounce the "n" sound correctly, you'd have it right. :)

136475 Families in Rudiobus are not like mortal families. For one thing, they were all "born" so long ago, they don't remember childhood, they don't remember parents . . . there's even some indication that they might all be "Bebo's children." But this wouldn't be in the same sense that mortal mothers have children. You always have to keep in mind that Faeries are FAERIES . . . they aren't just "mortals who don't die." They're different. They're OTHER.

But Rudiobans assume a sort of "family connection" with other animals of their same kind. Doesn't mean they AREN'T actually related to other kinds of animals (thus the implication that Eanrin and Glomar could be brothers and simply not remember it). But Eanrin would assume he is "brother" to any other cat Rudiobans, and Glomar would assume he's "brother" to any other badger Rudiobans etc. And they are HIGHLY unlikely to romantically pursue Rudiobans of their same animal type. It simply wouldn't be done!

Because Gleamdren is Bebo's "cousin," Bebo probably does, as speculated, take some sort of bird form. Not a canary (Gleamdren isn't considered Bebo's "sister"), but some form of bird. We simply don't know what. Well, you don't anyway . . . ;)

Bebo, as queen, might also not be limited to just one shape.

@Athelas--I do enjoy reading the theories! And no, I don't snicker . . . even when you're wrong about where the series is going, it's always in fun and well-thought-out ways. :)

136475 *Random semi-spoiler-ish note about POISON CROWN and Tom Hiddleston*

While glancing through everyone's picks for the characters, I was curious about The Hollow Crown (which I have not yet seen). So I looked up images and saw this one of Tom Hiddleston as Henry V: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/5643573...

I have to say, in that image at least, he is an absolute dead ringer for Earl Dian, one of the heroes in upcoming POISON CROWN . . . who even opens Chapter 1 by riding out on a white horse while wearing a red cloak! (This early 1400s period clothing is also very similar to the time period I'm depicting in Parumvir.)

I never go looking for pictures of actors to "cast" as my characters. Certainly not while I'm writing a novel! But this was actually kind of fun to see.

And I hope you will all look forward to meeting my grave and pious earl in a few months . . .

136475 Oh, not Rochelle for Imraldera! My sister-in-law is absolutely and completely gorgeous, but she is nothing like Imraldera in personality. Looks aren't everything in finding the perfect fit. (Besides, she isn't an actress.)

My vote is still for Shay Mitchell, though I do think Zoe Saldana is a great choice as well.

136475 For Foxbrush to be in line for the throne, he would have to be directly related to the king. So either Willowfair and Hawkeye or Foxbrush's father and Hawkeye are related. (I don't believe it's ever stated one way or the other, but in my head, Willowfair and Hawkeye are siblings.)
136475 Blood-ties, Mumsy dear. Your first loyalty lies with me . . . (And remember, I make cookies too!)

136475 Stepping in . . . Wow, I really do need to make an official pronunciation guide for all of you!

Here are how I pronounce some of these names. I'm not claiming these are CORRECT pronunciations-they're simply what I tend to say:

Eanrin--SHOULD be pronounced YAN-rin (from what my study of Gaelic pronunciation tells me). However, I tend to slip and call him EE-ann-rin half the time. *shrugs* Similarly, Iubdan should pronounced "Yube-don." I sometimes slip and say "AYE-ube-don," but this is incorrect. (Another reason I shouldn't do recorded interviews! LOL)

Imraldera--Actually, Grace, I tend to pronounce this name close to the way you are: Im-ral-DARE-uh. But it's Faerie language, so there isn't really a "right" or a "wrong" way.

Una--Is pronounced OO-na. Sometimes, you will hear this name (A classic Latin name) pronounced "Yew-na," like "Unicorn." (I had an English professor who always pronounced Princess Una from FAERIE QUEEN this way. Really grated sometimes!) But OO-na is the standard pronunciation. (Trivia: Una is my favorite name for a girl and has been since I was a kid and read Trina Schart Hyman's take on St. George and the Dragon.)

Seriously, Imps, I owe you a pronunciation guide by now. I promise I'll get on that one of these days soon! There is also a tentative encyclopedia in the works . . . but it's hard to find time for such things when writing the stories themselves!
