Andrea’s comments from the Laser and Sword Beta Readers group.

For Readers:

1)Only choose the novels you'd read for fun. Since we don't have file uploading here, for your security, I recommend you join this group's Facebook clone: https://www.facebook.com/groups/laser...
2)Only beta read when you have time for it.
3)Remember to point out what you like.
4)Be polite about what you don't like. If there's any way to word the objection as a question, please do so.
5)Do your best to sandwich critical comments in between encouraging comments and offer suggestions for improvement.
6)Try to comment at least once or twice every page or two.
7)Ask questions on anything you're unsure of.
8)Respect any firm deadlines posted. If you won't be able to make it, skip that project.


For Authors:

1)Before you post your own work, first beta read for one of the hosts.
2)Unless you're too far outside of all of their posted work's audiences, as time allows, return the favors of any fellow beta readers who are authors.
3)Be patient. It may potentially take a while for someone to get a good chance to return your own favors.
4)Be clear about any deadlines up front.
5)Post a hook, a blurb, a one page sample, and an email address where you can be contacted to request the full manuscript. If you're security conscious and thus not comfortable posting your email address,then join our Facebook group where you can attach the file and direct interested readers over there. The Facebook group is private, which means only the members registered there can access our files there.
