140617 The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference

Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking

Outliers: The Story of Success

Any other book by Malcolm Gladwell is a good read as well, such as Blink or Outliers.

The Tipping Point deals with the spread of ideas, almost treating them as if they were spreading similar to a virus. Additionally, it talks about underlying reasons that some ideas have such a profound impact while others do not, basically summarized in 3 laws (Law of Few, Stickiness Factor, Power of Context). There are several anecdotes which demonstrate those laws in action.

140617 I would highly recommend Guns, Germs and Steel for anyone interested in reading about the factors which caused a divergence in how each society developed.
