I think the author chose death as the narrator because it added something that the other Holocaust books don't have, a story within a story. As you are reading the book, you are also trying to figure out who the narrator is as they tell their own story.

I'm really excited about reading the book Ashes which is the third book in a three-part series. The series came out five years ago with the first two books and the third one, Ashes, just came out this year!

It definitely puts a new spin on what is otherwise a very serious topic. If the book was written accurately and is respectful to the original events, I don't see what the harm is.

The topic was more prevalent in the 1900s because a wave of immigrants was coming into the United States. People were having a lot of kids, but working harder than they did back in their home country because the work was harder bidding make as much money. This caused the adults to die earlier and leave their children without parents.
