I think they can be very important books to read in people's lifetimes. They just reveal so many truths that are necessary to understand, especially "The Help".

I don't necessarily think that everything was over exaggerated, because a main idea of the book is how Marley is a very unusual dog who would do crazy things, but I also think that at some points the details get very specific and may have not happened.

In my opinion, I think "The Help" can still relate to the present because it displays very important themes not only about racism that we still have today, but also learning to treat everyone with respect, like what Aibileen reaches Mae Mobley. Although, I think it is still meant to mainly give you an insight about the racism of the past.
Would the movie version of 'The Help' leave out some parts of the book because it is too explicit?

I don't think the movie should leave out major parts of "The Help", even if they are a little explicit. A movie about a historical time period that impacted so many should definitely be true to what happened. It's important to understand what really happened during this period of time.

Of the books that I have recently added to my "want to read" shelf, I am most excited about "The Naturals" because the characters seem interesting and the plot sounds very mysterious and interesting. I think it will be a fun read!

The Help reveals so many important truths about the past and the civil rights movement that are so essential to understand. I don't think it has to necessarily be part of the curriculum, but it should definitely be recommended more often, just because there are so many key elements in it that people should hear.
