Has anybody read the new Lincoln Child book The Third Gate: A Novel yet? I've seen very mixed reviews from readers on another site and was curious what people here thought of it.

Not having Pendergast was disappointing but it didn't make the movie suck, IMO.
I read Utopia, Terminal Freeze and Deep Storm by Child and they were all good. I read The Codex and Tyrannosaur Canyon by Preston and didn't like either one.

Gideon's Corpse got some bad reviews from PW and LJ which usually love their books. Sounds even cornier and over the top than Gideon's Sword. Think I'm gonna skip this one as I wasn't crazy about the first one.
On the "Ask Preston & Child" group yesterday, DP and LC stated they could see a younger Christopher Walken or, now, Johnny Depp playing Pendergast.
The movie is set in Chicago because the administration of the Museum of Natural History in NY refused to allow the film's producers to film there as they felt the book was unflattering to them.I read the book and saw the movie and enjoyed them both, despite the movie's divergence from the book. It is well-made with a good cast and director and special effects by Stan Winston. Worth a view.
Me, neither. A little more effort and the middle book could be interesting but it always seems to be the case that it just ends up as filler.
Just finished the book. Gave it 3 stars. Would have given it 3.5 if I could. Ended really well but meandered for too long a period to really get into it all that much. Nice cliffhanger finish to set up the final part of the Helen trilogy.
I am about two-thirds through and although I like it, I am not loving it. Seems to be suffering from middle-book-in-trilogy syndrome. Unlike other comments I have read, I am not finding the characters to be all that interesting this time around, and Corrie is downright obnoxious and annoying as hell. Hopefully the ending is as good as people are saying.
I read both Alienist and Angel and thought both were excellent but never felt a similarity to the Pendergast novels.
