I am currently reading this series by Colleen Coble. This is not a book for elementary students, but I thought it might be fun to create a thread where teachers could talk about their favorites. Each book in this series focuses on a siblings living in Hawaii. Book one is about Kaia, a dolphin trainer for a sea lab. The second book features Mano, her older brother, and the third book is about Bane, the oldest child. All of the books have moments of suspense and humor. While not my favorite Christian author or series, this is one that I would recommend to others.
Welcome Cathy! Please encourage others to join. I am always on the look out for good books for my students!
Cathy, this book is a MUST for young or old. I just told my grandmother about it yesterday! It was a great read-aloud!
What a great book! I read it a few weeks ago to see if it was an option for a read-aloud. Moses LeBeau is an upcoming sixth grader. She and her best friend Dale are out to solve a murder in their hometown of Tupelo Landing, NC. I know very few children who have Mo's wit, but that made it no less funny. While some of the humor does not transfer well when reading aloud, my students are truly enjoying this book.
I am currently reading "The Ghosts of Tupelo Landing." This is the sequel to Newbery Honor book "Three Times Lucky." Much like the first book, there is something afoul in Tupelo Landing. Unlike the first book, "Ghosts" is a tad creepier (in my opinion). What are you reading?
I adored this book! I started it some time ago while I was working a Scholastic Warehouse event, and in the middle of my reading, I was pulled to another location. Since then, I have looked for it locally, but no one in my town keeps the book in stock. Recently, I found it in my new school library and decided to use it as a read-aloud for my 5th grade class. I laughed and cried (all in front of my students), but I was amazed at the discussions it fostered. We totally connect with Ivan and his friends at the Big Top Mall and Video Arcade. The story pull at the heartstrings of young and old alike! I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say that this book is definitely worth your time!
Hi! My name is Holly and I am a 5th grade teacher in Alabama. I'm a Christian, mom of twins, and a wife. Can't wait to meet everyone!
