I'm just a few pages from finishing #90. That's right, I'm a mere 10 Nancy Drew mysteries away from reaching my goal. Now I have to decide between The Clue of the Whistling Bagpipes and The Mysterious Mannequin. The Clue of the Tapping Heels or The Clue of the Leaning Chimney?

As for 2010, well, 2009 has truly been hell for me. If I've learned anything from this project, it's that books are too intellectually taxing. I plan to spend 2010 immersed in magazines, and more magazines. I've cancelled my New Yorker subscription and subscribed instead to People and J-14.

When we meet in 2010, will you even recognize me? I'll be the one lounging in the corner of the cafe with my BFF, caught in a sudden fit of giggling after discussing the latest Jonas Brothers news.

I'd like to extend a heart-felt apology for the silence and the sleepless nights no doubt you've all endured for this, wondering if I'm going to make it to my goal of 100 books in 2009. And I have to admit, we're certainly not out of the woods yet. May has been an unusually difficult month. I'm going to just barely meet my monthly quota.

But with seven full months yet to go and 45 books complete (possibly as many as 50 by the end of May) I'm going to boldy state that I am indeed on the path to reaching 100 book by the end of the year. Possibly even 101 books, if you can believe that!

If I was George W, I'd probably ask you all to hold hands right now, forming an impromptu prayer circle to pray for good book reading providence over the next 7 months. But I'm not GW, or actually a practicing Christian, so I guess I'll have to settle for just knowing that my project is foremost in all of your thoughts. So get some sleep! I promise it's all going to be OK.

Rebecca, as soon as I figure out the technology, I'm booting you from this group. Dissent will not be tolerated here.

Mark, in writing this review, you've put in ten times the thought and effort that I did in writing the book. And, bravo, you've really captured its essence! As reward (as if getting a glimpse into the inner-world of Andy Henroid isn't itself enough reward) I'll be sure to get you on the early reviewer list for the 2nd edition, which promises to be even more action-packed than the 1st.

Frankly, I’m surprised by the massive turn-out so far. This was really just intended as a vanity project. And I’m starting to get nervous about the responsibility of being your designated spiritual leader, you know, molding three young minds... Andy, breathe! One, two, three. OK, I'm better. So, you’re really interested in being me? Well, you should probably start by reading my book That’s right, still in print after all these years and every bit as relevant.

Rebecca, my 7th grade Advanced English teacher imparted a bit of wisdom on this topic. I hadn't read "Huck Finn" but tried to make up the oral report there standing at the podium. I was in the hall, sobbing, after being publicly unmasked as a liar. She leaned down to me and said, "Andy, you're only cheating yourself." And then she added, "But I'll still have to give you an F." Rebecca, for God's sake, learn from my mistakes!
