What do the the four animals on the lifeboat (the hyena, the zebra, the orangutan and the the tiger) represent in Life of Pi? I am positive that these characters symbolize something or someone from Pi's life but I'm not sure what or who.
Later on in Chapter 15 the narrator describes Pi's home (in a flash-forward to current time) as a temple, and observes many different holy symbols and images, from the Hindu Christian and Islam religions. Based on this evidence I would say that Pi is a mix of all three.
