I've read Barracuda and I concur that his writing is not exactly enjoyable... but I think Tsiolkas is probably an important author in Australia at the moment. I think he hits social topics really hard - like class divides, family dysfunction, growing up gay, stuff like that. It's really good to have that voice who will tell it like it is, even if it makes us feel uncomfortable.
Oh, one more thing. I'm too nervous to read Big Lies Little Lies because Megan from Children's Books Daily said that the school mum vibes are FIERCE and REALISTIC which scared me, haha. (My eldest starts school next year!)
I haven't read anything by Liane, but I've read a few of Jaclyn's and I really like her quirky style. She has the YA series as birdandfox mentioned, but she also has a booked called I Have A Bed Made of Buttermilk Pancakes which is funny and cute and VERY quirky. I think you'd like it, Pip!Apparently there are three Moriarty sisters who all write books. Interesting!
Hi everyone. It seems like a lot of people I know are reading Helen Garner's books at the moment. Having not read any of her work before, I'd love a recommendation of a place to start...
Yay! Very exciting! I love books and I often need prompting to get into Australian authors - just because there's so many books out there. I wholeheartedly adore The Service of Clouds so that is a great choice!
