This is one of the most hotly contested questions about Wuthering Heights. Do you see it as a love story? Why or why not?
Have you seen any of the movies or other adaptations? Which did you like? (Is there a webseries? I assume there's a webseries.)
I can't be the only one who's somehow never read this before, right? Who else is new to the book? Are you looking forward to it? What do you expect?I'm actually not TOTALLY new to it - I've started it a BUNCH of times and got as far as halfway through once, I think. And I didn't not LIKE it, so... I'm honestly not sure why I never read the whole thing. But this month I shall change that!
Welcome to our October/November discussion! We're giving Wuthering Heights two months, so everyone has time to read and because there's a lot to talk about here! Additional discussion topics will pop up as time goes on, and if you have a topic you'd like to discuss, let us know in this thread - we'll start a new thread for you! Also in this thread: Any general thoughts/impressions/etc. as we get started?
Shannon wrote: "I chose The Wonderful Wizard of Oz-- it was one of the only ones I hadn't read. It's magical!"Oooh, love that one!!
Not a children's book but by one of the authors - I just read the new Judy Blume. Anyone else? I loved it.
Dear members! We're taking June off to brainstorm & revamp our modes of operation to encourage more participation! Your ideas are welcome. Where/how would you like to discuss books? Here on Goodreads? Twitter? Tumblr? Somewhere else? What book-related activities would you like to see? Do you want videos? What kind? We want to do what YOU GUYS want so everyone can join in and have fun! Let us know your thoughts!
Anyone reading the original? Everyone else, what do you think of the translation? Any oddities jump out at you? Other thoughts?
My favorite when I first read this in college was "A Supermarket in California," and I think it's my favorite again this time around. I love the imagery.
For poetry month, we're inviting you to make videos about your favorite poems! Read them, do something creative and arty . . . whatever! Watch Daye's video explaining the challenge here and then link us to your video! (You can tweet us or put the link right here in this thread, so we can find you!)
Most editions of Howl include some other poems too. Any favorites? Here's the place to discuss those!
So . . . what did everyone think of the actual poem "Howl"? Had you read it before? First time? Impressions?
The Picture of Dorian Gray won this month's poll, but in honor of St. Patrick's Day we're setting up this thread to discuss your other favorite Irish books/writers. :) Anyone reading anything else Irish this month?
This is a relatively short book, so spoilers aren't quite so much of an issue, but let's keep this a safe space just in case.
Chicago is a very important aspect of the novel - some have even called it a character in its own right. In an interview, the author mentioned using real locations to help ground the novel, which is in other ways fantastical. Did this work for you? If you've been to Chicago, did it feel right? If not, did it make you want to visit?
