I thought the premise for the book was good, but it was very confusing to read. I see why it's confusing since the main character is crazy and the story is told in first person, but it was still hard to read for me. Overall, I love the plot line, though.

I think that most WWII literature focused on the European war because it's the most well known part of the war. Immediately when we think about WWII, we think of Adolf Hitler. From that point, people's interests might extend to include other countries that were affected by Germany. However, I believe that America isn't usually at the forefront of our minds when thinking of this war. This is why we usually only see literature talking about the European war.

I think the thing that transcended everything was his mental capacity and endurance. If he wasn't so willful and determined with everything in his life, including when he was a trouble-making kid, then he probably wouldn't of survived as well or at all.
