2017 List (63 new)
Dec 31, 2016 07:43AM

153782 I'm very excited for the 2017 list, and the enthusiasm it comes with this year :)

153782 I am thinking about reading The Outsiders for this one, do you think it would count? I've never seen the movie, but have heard so many good things about the story.

153782 I started out by thinking it only had to do with different countries, but there are a lot of groups, people, organizations, ect I don't know a whole heck of a lot about. For instance I picked Hell's Angels by Hunter S. Thompson a few weeks ago at a used bookstore, and I really don't know about "biker" culture. But is that really considered a culture, or is that kind of a cop-out?

What is everyone else reading for this category?

153782 I say yes, although...I probably wouldn't, but for me it would feel a little like "cheating". Although technically it's not at all. Some people don't count audio books as read at all, since you didn't really "read" anything, but it's actually a really big commitment to listen to a 600 page book read by someone else, so if your still receiving the words...

I say count that book!

153782 Interesting Theresa, I might look into that closer to when I am gonna try to check off this category

153782 Syrup by Max Barry is one of my favorites and all about Marketing/Advertising :)

153782 Thanks for this list! I've been thinking of reading Tiger Lily by Jodi Lyn Anderson (I think thats the author...) but felt like it might be cheating, since I'm not sure Peter Pan really qualifies as a fairytale... so now I will probably pick one of these books

153782 Me Before You was awesome! I used that in the takes place in Europe category though, but I can't wait for the movie either

153782 Oh no, I added me and some books a few days ago - I hope I didnt accidentally delete stuff, sorry if it was me guys!

153782 ooohhh, thats a good idea, I've been meaning to read that one for awhile now... :)

153782 For this category I think I'm going to read Confessions of a Call Center Girl. It's really the closest thing I could find - I work in a call center for drug and alcohol treatment centers, so while I'm not really trying to sell anything myself, I'm also not a counselor by any sense of the word. Its not what I want to do forever, I'm going to school for accounting but I'm not working in anything near there yet, so call center novel it is haha

153782 Ok, this may be a silly one to be stumped by - but what is everyone reading for this category? I guess a lot of YA dystopians would fit this right? Anyone have any suggestions?

153782 Haha, I have 20 more pages left of the 5th Wave too, its a popular choice for this category I see

Except for the political memoir. Ugh."
(comment from another thread - "2016 anyone?" thread)

Ok, so I've been researching this one and I feel like I might be cheating (lol) but I was thinking Fear and Loathing on the campaign trail '72 by Hunter S. Thompson may suffice for this category. Even though it's not written by a politician it's still a true (though probably drug hazed) account of a political campaign for President. Anyone else have other ideas?

This thread is started in the spirit of the new 2016 challenge

153782 So what about groups? Is there already a pop sugar 2016 group, or will this turn into that?
I know there is the othet group that voted on and made their own challenge, just curious about this one I guess :)

153782 I actually just checked out the 2016 list, and I love it! Haha, count me in for that group :)

153782 I'm hoping to finish, but I probably won't get there - I was hoping for a seperate 2016 challenge, but I actually love the idea of just continuing this challenge until it's done!

153782 I had never even thought of it like that, huh, that is probably a better category - a book that scares you to read, not necessarily a book that is scary. I love how you can interpret some of these categories different ways

153782 I'm started reading this alien story, Communion, because even though I'm not sure if I believe it or not figured it'd creep me out. It did at first, by myself in the dark, but not so much now so I might have to pick something else.

The only book that truly scared me was Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill. The first few chapters terrified me! haha I stopped reading it, so it may have gotten less scary - hey just realized that could fill another category! haha

153782 So I know this has been asked, but I'm just not sure. I just got this book Crooked, which I haven't read yet but in summary is about Richard Nixon and a fictional story surrounding the nonfictional watergate scandal - is that something you'd categorize here? Just wanted some opinions, even though I'll probably just do what I feel when the time comes haha
