Thanks for the candidates!

(sorry that was unclear)"

Okay!

Magnus from the mortal instruments"

Which nomination, Brigan or Grimalkin?

Brigan from Fire (Graceling realm 2)

The only thing that doesn't count is if the character is a main antagonist or is a love interest. Animals are A-OKAY. ;D

Which book from the Iron Fey is Grimalkin from?

And I will not be including Brigan since he is a love interest, but he will have a chance in the love interest category.

Thanks!

Wylan from Six of Crows

Is Dancer from a sequel in the series? If so, which book?
154505 Clarification: I have now replaced Best Looking OTP and Best Looking Cast with Best Love Interest and Best Antagonist, so please do not put love interests or antagonists on here.

154505 MY CANDIDATES:

The Marquis de Carabas... from Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

Mr. Penumbra... from Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore (Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, #1) by Robin Sloan

Nikolai Lantsov... from the Grisha Trilogy, the second book, Siege and Storm (The Grisha, #2) by Leigh Bardugo

(I love him too much to leave him off, even if he is from a sequel.)
154505 For the first category in our Bookish Academy Awards, we have the nominees for the Best Male Side Character (AKA the Best Supporting Actor).

The Rules:
1. You may nominate multiple characters, but they must be from different books.

2. You may only nominate up to 3 characters, and therefore, 3 books.

3. Try not to nominate characters that show up in sequels (hard, I know) since the voters (us) will have to read the books before voting for the winner. If you really, REALLY, want to, put the character's name and then both the series name and the book in which the character shows up.

The only exceptions to the above rule are Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and any of the spin-offs, the Hunger Games, and any of the other extremely popular series that most of us have already read.

(Yes, even the Mortal Instruments. I am willing to make that sacrifice. BUT NOT THE SPIN-OFFS.)

4. Please keep nominated books relatively age appropriate. If you do want to nominate an NC-17 book, please label it as such next to the title. Titles like Game of Thrones fall semi into this category (from the explicit sex scenes), but just label them as M.

Example: Christian Grey (Fifty Shades of Grey, NC-17)

Jon Snow (Game of Thrones, M)

5. When voting for the top 5 nominees (which we will actually be reading from), try keeping an open mind and vote for ones not your own. Remember that this is mostly for fun and to re-read a whole bunch of books you've already read is a bit boring, to say the least.

If there are any more questions, I'll answer them here and you can nominate the round one candidates here as well.

154505 I am adding more ppl into the club and this is of an "of all time" thing.

P.S. Please make me a mod so that I can make a folder for this.
Mar 15, 2016 10:50PM

154505 Hey, I was thinking we could all pitch in to nominate some of our favorite books in categories, read the nominated ones, and then vote on a winner!

I have a spreadsheet here of all the categories and the limit of nominees per category.

Here's a list of them:

CATEGORY (limit of book nominees)

BEST MALE SIDE CHARACTER (5)
BEST LOOKING SHIP (5)
BEST LOOKING CAST OF CHARACTERS (3)
BEST WORLD/LOCATION OF STORY (5)
BEST NOVELLA/ ANTHOLOGY SHORT STORY (5)
BEST CHARACTER BACKSTORY (5)
BEST DIALOGUE (5)
BEST PROSE (IN GENERAL) (5)
BEST FEMALE SIDE CHARACTER (5)
BEST BOOK COVER (5)
BEST COMIC VOLUME (5)
BEST GRAPHIC NOVEL (5)
BEST OVERALL (IN GROUP DYNAMICS AND/OR PERSONALITY) CAST OF CHARACTERS
BEST OTP (5)
BEST BROTP (5)
BEST WORLDBUILDING (5)
BEST TITLE (5)
BEST ATMOSPHERE (5)
BEST ORIGINAL PLOT (5)
BEST ADAPTED PLOT (AS FROM A FAIRYTALE, ETC.) (5)
BEST WRITER (5)
BEST MALE PROTAGONIST (5)
BEST FEMALE PROTAGONIST (5)
BEST BOOK (8)

Basically, I'll make separate topics for each category where, in the first round, we'll put our chosen books and then we'll vote by anonymous poll (that I will create), which will narrow it down to our final candidates.

Then, we read the candidates as a group and do final voting for the winners of the Academy Awards by anonymous poll again.

An afterparty will be hosted by yours truly.

Further explanation of each category will be on each of their individual topics and if you have any general questions, I will answer them on this forum.
