I would say that deep inside Caddy effects Quentin sexually but he refuses to see it and thus his feelings come out more as ... sibling affection or protectiveness, maybe....

I would say that the watch represents his link to his father, and that he broke when he felt that link was broken ... maybe?

Thank you so much for this. I'm still working my way through Quentin; this info should really help!

Thank you, I'll have to go back, dig out my copy, and take a trip down memory lane.

I agree. I don't see how he could not, being that racism is engrained in the 'system' and Faulkner being born into an upper-middle class Southern family in 1897....

I wrestle with that question now and then, most recently with Orson Scott Card and J.K. Rowling and their blatant homophobia..... Sigh!
I went down that same rabbit hole of a branch of a tree and it just didn't make sense. Thank you again!
Thank you! :D I had just found that (trying to catch up on all the threads at once). I also had a look at the Wiki character list -- whoa, so much stuff I missed; and here I had thought I was doing pretty well, LOL!

I gave up on the first couple of pages after a few readings and just moved on. I will enjoy going back and 'getting' it. :D
Okay, not that I need to know the gender of any particular person I meet (I keep reminding myself), but maybe it is okay to ask such a question about characters.... Quentin? There seem to be clues leading to them as both male, and more often, female. Are there two Quentins?
I'm afraid I am late to the table here. I have not yet found my hard copy of the book, so I went looking for an online copy that would work on various devices. Just got started this morning! I am so glad to find out that I mostly got 2 of the 3 timelines in Benjy -- Yippee!
