Go Set a WatchmanOur book club read this for our November/December meeting. Although we enjoyed the book for the most part. Most agreed that it was not as good as To kill a Mockingbird. Can understand why it wasn't published prior that book. Without having read the first book, we would not have been interested in this book.
The Bookworms Book club meets the last Thursday of each month at 10:00 am. With the exception of the November/December meeting which is held the second Thursday in December.
This book will be a very good book club book. I was conflicted through the entire book on loving the characters and sometimes not liking them. The plot is such that it is so hard to fault any of the decisions they made even while knowing that the decision was wrong. I was wishing the ending were different, but we all want that happy ending and don't always get it. Very well written, I would recommend this book!
Based on a true story. Southern Gothic. That's such a great start. The characters are unique and memorable. . It's a story worth being told and has some humor in it which is always a plus for me. Great book discussion for our book club.
The White House Public Library Book Club will be discussing The Boys in the Boat for the February book club. When: February 25, 2016/Thursday @ 10:00 a.m.

After reading the above book, four main points were brought up and discussed. First, all at the meeting agreed that the memories the author described when he was three years old were too detailed from someone that age. Second, many agreed that even with the single family home, if the parent really cares and is involved in the child’s activities, it can make a difference in how successful they become in life. The third point was about how hard it is for kids to find a way to better themselves, when they have no real influences to guide them. And the last main discussion was about sad it was that the “other” Wes Moore tried to better himself and joined the job corps, but could not make ends meet for his family, ending up back in a life of crime. If you read the book, let us know what your thoughts were. Do you agree with the about statements? Do you have different ideas about the factors that causes individuals to be successful/unsuccessful? Did you have a different reaction to the book? Let us know.
As part of the One Book One Community Project in Sumner County and Vol. State, topics from the book The Other Wes Moore will be discussed during the months of February and March. Stay tune for these upcoming discussion questions and topics.
